Welcome to the first installment of Persons of Interest— a series in which I dive into good taste by asking the coolest people I know what they’re interested in and obsessed with.

This week we are graced by the incredibly talented Silvie. Silvie is a musician based in Nashville, TN who writes eloquent and ethereal music about both the beautiful and difficult aspects of life. There’s a quality to the songs that she’s writing that is brutally honest while being tender about it. She understands that life can be both difficult and beautiful in the very same moment. She is a dear friend of mine, a fan of the newsletter, and someone I consider incredibly cool. Her new EP Astraea is out today on all streaming platforms.

Ragdoll by Dora Jar, 7 Up by Phoebe Go, Diet Pepsi by Addison Rae have all been on repeat nonstop lately

What’s a book you recommend to everyone? 

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

Name something you think of as cool. 

When people can say “take it easy” as a way of saying goodbye - I’ve been trying to implement that for myself for years and it never sounds normal so I respect when people can do that

What’s the best thing you’ve purchased in the past three months?

Incense called At The Museum (by the brand Kaleidoscope) - It smells like Le Labo Santal 33 perfume to me

Tell me a story you find yourself telling and retelling over and over again whenever you find an audience.

When I was getting divorced my ex husband asked me to have his divorce papers served at the zoo. I had to literally email my lawyer and ask if that was possible - he ended up not getting served there, but it does feel like that sums up my ex husband’s vibe at the time (unhinged and difficult to deal with). 

Name a couple of things you’re obsessed with. 

Rocks of any kind, caramel coffee almonds from Trader Joe’s, my new Tecova’s, Baccarat Rouge (I was so obsessed with this scent because a customer at my work came in wearing it, and after talking about it for months, my friends all pitched in money to get it for me for my birthday and it’s possibly the best gift i’ve ever received)

How do you know when your interest in something has passed a threshold of becoming a part of your personality? 

If people start giving me something as a gift or sending me tik toks about something, I know it’s fully a part of my personality - this has happened with rocks, moths, cheez its, etc.

What’s something you’re newly interested in?

A hot 6oz oat milk matcha 

What’s your longest running interest? 

The thing I’ve loved the longest is probably piano - I started playing as a kid and it’s still one of my favorite things to do and also listen to

What’s something you’ll always be a fan of? 

I think I’ll always be a fan of Texas - even though I would probably never live there again and I know it has its issues, I’m fucking obsessed with where I’m from and it’s so nostalgic / special to me

What are you tired of talking about?

To be fully honest, I sometimes get tired of talking about my divorce (especially sharing about it on the internet), but then I remember it’s something so many people go through and it can hopefully help others feel less alone in it for someone to be talking about it openly
