Hello, dear reader.
It’s been a few weeks since I last wrote and to be honest it’s because I needed time and space.
Time to process, re-configure, re-assess, make some new friends, find some new routines. Time to hang out at new places, see new things and just generally adjust to all the new.
Space to feel everything and reconnect to myself. Space to feel nothing and figure out what had me severed in the first place.
I spent the past weekend in New York City visiting with a dear friend, and then spending some much needed time alone.
While there I began studying up on David Hockney.
My interest was piqued when I read about him in Jenny Odell’s How To Do Nothing, which I’m reading right now.
He left me with this nugget of wisdom, which I’ve been chewing on all week.
“I believe that the very process of looking can make a thing beautiful." - David Hockney
The very process of giving something your time and attention assigns it value. Just looking at something, showing up and showing care is enough.
I’ll be back next week, with some more thoughts on spending time alone. Stick with me until then.

Some recommendations, while we’re here.
I finally got my hands on this fantastic t-shirt from Hannah Michelle. And yes, I am staying home and eating spaghetti for the foreseeable future.
I’m really in the market for a new bookshelf and while none of these are the one for me, maybe these ( one, two, three, four or five ) are for you!
We’ve got problems in the garden: bug problems! cut worms! aphids! white flies! spiders! ants! I spent all last night researching natural insecticides and discovered neem oil. I regret to inform you, though, that neem oil smells terrible.
Recently found a bath house that does private bookings for rather a rather inexpensive price tag in Nashville and booked it without even blinking.
While I was in New York I caught Dawoud Bey’s Collection at the Whitney and it was breathtaking and life changing. I will never look at making photos of people the same again. Check out a write up on it here.
