Yesterday was my 31st birthday and as a gift to myself, I’m moving this newsletter to a new day: Tuesday.
We’re going to give it a try.
Today I thought I’d share a few things that are near and dear to me. In the interest of transparency, a lot of these little observations have been jotted down in my notes app at various moments over the course of the past three or four years. In between notes that say ‘butter, eggs, crusty bread, lemons’ and ‘chaotic evil John Lennon’, there are tidbits like numbers 3 and 8. These are all things I know to be true, and they’ve shaped who I am in some ways big and small. There were going to be like 30 of them, but I’m narrowing it down to 10. I am sharing these with you, but know they are for me. If you find some usefulness in them, that makes me happy too.
Energy is everything. What you bring into an experience shapes what that experience will be for better or worse.
Love the things that you love at the volume at which you love them.
Be curious, not judgmental.
Find a hobby. And then find another one. Keep trying new things. Keep in mind you don’t have to be good at something to find it enjoyable. And if you are good at it, you don’t have to monetize it.
Order fries for the table. If you’re thinking about fries, everyone is thinking about fries.
If you have any interest in growing a garden, give it a try. Even if it fails (nearly everyone’s first garden fails) you will learn so much about showing up to something.
Friendship can be hard. If you look around your life and there are people there that have been there for over a year, or three years, or five years or ten years, you are LUCKY. And while we’re at it: Tell the people you love how much you love them as specifically as you can and as often as possible. Do it. Do it right now. If someone came across your mind, some pleasant thing about someone you love, text them. Say it. Life is too excruciatingly short to not tell people how wonderful they are.
In most cases, the more time you spend away from a screen, the better you feel.
The story that you’re telling yourself about a situation may not be true.
30 IS SO YOUNG. SO IS 31.
This week I’ve been slowly adding to a playlist of songs that make me feel like myself and it is now something that I hold very dear.
My partner and love Tucker Francis has officially started his newsletter back up and it is bliss. The first issue is about the best Christmas song, and you’re going to want to sign up.
Do I need this Send Newts sweatshirt? I think I do.
A small joy of the past week: I got this glitter eyeshadow gel in from Colourpop from their Lizzie McGuire collab in the shade Sing To Me Paolo, and it is too good.
