The way it feels to be cold again after you’ve been outside in the summer heat.
The way it feels for someone to make you feel right at home.
A large crane flying overhead just as the sun sets and twilight falls, in a beautiful backyard as the heat finally breaks.
Meeting for lunch and then lingering to talk about nothing at all.
Feeling at home somewhere, and returning home to another place that is home.
Being the person to finally get the answer during a late night patio bar game of 20 questions.
Writing in ways that feel good and easy.
Sharing a cigarette. (sorry mom)
Reading an entire book on an airplane.
Reading a book that hits all your interest points in a way that feels perfect.
Reading when it’s too hot to do anything else.
Having someone greet you with “Oh yeah, so-and-so was telling me about you. You’re her friend who reads!”
Yellow lace curtains with sunlight coming through them, making everything glow.
Getting enough sleep.
Cool showers in the summertime.
When a bug bite finally stops itching and starts to go away.
Learning to be kind to yourself in a way that makes you grow wildly.
The smell of sunscreen and chlorine that’s left behind in your hair after a swim, and the way that is unintentionally the scent of my summer.
Beating writer's block in a new way and then adding that method to your toolkit.
Pressing send.
Thank you for your support. It means the world to me that you’d continue to extend the invite into your internet living room. The newsletter means a lot to me and I am consistently thrilled to learn that it means something to other people. Let’s say you love my work and you want to support me! The best way to do that is by becoming a paid subscriber of this newsletter :) This newsletter isn’t paywalled, which means all support for it is voluntary! I really like it that way, and paid subscribers help me keep it that way!
Thank you to my newest paid subscribers Sarah and Murph!
